Identity and origins
Father Jean-Bosco MUSUMBI MBIN The son of MBIN-EKEN and Dandiong Ayaas, he came from a family of three children. He was baptized at his request at the age of 14, in 1970, and did his first communion in the same year.
Vocation and entry into religious life
From childhood, Father MUSUMBI dreamed of becoming a doctor to alleviate the misery of his people. Several circumstances, however, directed his vocation towards the priesthood: the questioning of a priest while he was in sixth primary, the witness of the community life of his parish missionaries, and the influence of a spiritual song in the middle class. He chose missionary life as an ideal and entered the convent.
From 1977 to 1978, he made his novitiate in Ifwanzondo, in the diocese of Idiofa. He became the Oblate Missionary of Mary Immaculate (OMI) with his first vows on September 8, 1978.
Training
· 1961-1971: primary education in Bembele and then Mapangu.
· 1971-1977: Humanities at the Holy Thérèse Institute in Mapangu (present Babola Institute in Mapangu).
· 1977-1978: novitiate in Ifwanzondo, diocese of Idiofa.
· September 8, 1978: First vows as Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate.
· 1978-1981: Studies in philosophy at the Institut Saint Pierre Canisius – Kimwenza, Kinshasa.
· 1982-1986: Theological studies at the Institut Saint-Eugène de Mazenod (present-day Saint-Eugène de Mazenod University).
· 1989-1992: Bachelor of Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (PUG) and Bachelor of Religious Theology at the Claretianum Institute in Rome.
· 2010-2011: Internet technology training (Webmaster online) during his sabbatical year.

· 1992-2002: Teacher of Spiritual Theology and Theology of Religious Life at the Institute of African Spirituality (ASUMA/COSUMA) and the Institut Saint-Eugène de Mazenod.
· 1995-1998: Provincial Vicar of the Oblate Province of Congo.
· 1998-1999: Acting Provincial Superior.
· 1999-2002: Superior of the Sainte Martha de Limete community.
· Director of the African Institute of Mission Sciences (IASMI).
· 2002-2010: General Councillor of the Congregation for the Africa-Madagascar Region.
· January 2012 – February 18, 2019: Obedience for the Province of Cameroon. He worked there as a preacher of recollections, retreats and sessions, webmaster of the province's official website, head of the communication committee, accompaniment of the Associate Laymen IMO (Maroua Group) and trainer at the Yves-Plumey Scholasticate in Yaoundé.
· February 18, 2019: posting to the Province of Congo. After a few months at the Saint-Eloi Provincial House, he was sent to the community of Saint Martha of Limete because of his fragile health, to be closer to the Hospital Saint Joseph of Limete.
Father Jean-Bosco MUSUMBI died on 16 September 2026 at 16:32, at the age of 70.
Tribute
Father Jean-Bosco MUSUMBI left the memory of a committed religious in the service of formation, spirituality and Oblate mission, both in Africa and internationally.
