The teachers of the Saint Joseph school complex of Songololo, in the diocese of Matadi, in the province of Kongo-Central, are committed to actively participating in the Church's educational mission and improving school life.
Engagement in the Pastoral Year
The parish priest of Saint Joseph, Oblate Father Berthier Eyer, received their signed commitment during the Mass on Sunday, October 25. Each teacher signed the "Charter of Commitments of Teachers and Educational Staff – School Year 2026-2027". This charter is the fruit of their reflections, their exchanges and, above all, of a dialogue enlightened by the Holy Spirit. It reflects their desire to make their institution much more than a place of transmission of knowledge: a true educational community at the service of youth, the Church and society.
On October 3, the parish priest had already gathered the teachers to share with them the theme of the pastoral year 2026-2027 communicated by the bishop of Matadi, Monsignor Giraud Pindi: « Building together our Church in responsibility and generosity (cf. 1 Ch 29:14).

A Charter of 7 Commitments
In particular, the teachers of Songolo affirmed their will not to remain mere spectators in the Church but to become actively engaged members, responsible educators and generous builders. The collection of commitments sets out the main lines of action chosen:
- Be engaged in the Church;
- Working in unity;
- Assume professional responsibility;
- Education and supervision with responsibility;
- Engage in extracurricular activities;
- Cultivate respect and dialogue;
- Take care of the heritage and contribute to its growth.
Concrete signs of commitment already in progress
The parish of Saint Joseph in Songolo is already delighted to see some teachers translate these commitments into action. Several of them joined the Group « Kizito and Anuarite » and the choir of young people or now support it, thus contributing to liturgical animation and the participation of young people in parish life.

Another encouraging sign is that the teachers' choir, created last year, animated the Sunday Mass during which the charter was proclaimed and signed. Through their singing, these educators have contributed to the celebration of their own commitment..
These initiatives illustrate a fundamental conviction: rebuilding the Church begins with personal commitment, continues in collective action and takes shape in daily service.
Personal and Community Renewal

In Songololo, the teachers of the Saint Joseph school complex intend to make this school year 2026-2027 a real opportunity for professional, pastoral and community renewal. Their charter is now a benchmark for guiding their actions and assessing their fidelity to the commitments made.
Because to rebuild the Church together in responsibility and generosity is also to contribute, every day, to forming a youth better prepared to serve the Church and to build a more just, fraternal and supportive society.
