Closing of the training workshop in ecclesiastical archiving

The Provincial Superior of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate closed a four-day training session in ecclesiastical archiving at De Mazenod University in Kinshasa on Monday, November 17.

Father Jérôme Vélichor, archivist in Rome at the General House of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, presented the importance of the archives, their maintenance and preservation, their classification and above all the need to appropriate them to consult them, to make the history of the institutions alive.

At the opening of the work, on Friday, November 14, the Rector of De Mazenod University, Father Clement Fiyungu, justified the organization of this session aimed at serving the truth by serving the Church and society through the preservation of memory and the continuation of works.

On behalf of the organizing power of the University, at the close of work, on Monday, November 17, the provincial superior of the Missionary Oblates in the DRC and Angola, thanked the moderator, Jérôme Velichor and the participants. Father Constant Kienge-Kienge praised the commitment and intellectual curiosity to preserve, value and use ecclesiastical archives as researchers, religious, lay, committed or passionate intellectuals.

Among the participants, Fr. Fabrice Namwisi, Secretary-Chancellor of the Diocese of Kikwit, in the provinces of Kwilu and Kwango, recognized the vital importance of this formation for his diocese: « Archives are not just history. It is the future of the diocese, it is the future of the Church. ».
