Founder's Day celebrated in Kinshasa, tribute to the Dean of the Bishops of the DRC

Bishop Edouard Isango, one of the three auxiliary bishops of Kinshasa, presided at the Mass on Thursday, May 21, on the feast of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, in Kinshasa-Kintambo. In the chapel of the scholasticate Saint Eugene de Mazenod, Mass was celebrated also and especially as the patronal feast of the Université de Mazenod. And Monsignor Isango paid tribute to the Congolese Oblate bishop Louis Mbwol, Dean of Bishops of the country.

United in the search for truth

Bishop Isango said to offer the Lord, through the intercession of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, the future and the future of the university institution called, moreover, to renew itself constantly.

The bishop invoked on the academic and educational community wisdom and intelligence, gifts of the Holy Spirit expected at Pentecost, to celebrate next Sunday, 24 May.

The courage of Saint Paul and the search for universal truth were also the concern of Eugene de Mazenod, founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The holy founder, who died on May 21, 1861, invited his sons to « dare great as the world » and proclaim the unity for which the Lord Jesus himself prayed.

Monsignor Isango thus recalled to the homily. The bishop congratulated the educational community of the University of Mazenod, made up of several religious congregations, with lay men and women, all united in the search for truth and carried by the prayer of Jesus.

Tribute to the Dean of Bishops

At the end of Mass, Bishop Edouard Isango noted the presence of Bishop Louis Mbwol, Oblate of Mary Immaculate, Bishop Emeritus of Idiofa, aged 95. After being ordained bishop in 1984, Bishop Mbwol was first auxiliary bishop and then ordinary bishop of the diocese of Isangi in the present province of Tshopo. In 1997, Pope John Paul II transferred him to the Diocese of Idiofa. He became emeritus at 75 in 2006. Louis Mbwol had been master of novices at Ifwanzondo from 1977 to 1984 in the diocese of Idiofa.

Monsignor Isango noted that Monsignor Mbwol is now the dean of the bishops of the Democratic Republic of the Congo after the recent death of Bishop Godefroid Mukeng, Archbishop Emeritus of Kananga. Monsignor Mbwol was born on 11 February 1931.

After Mass, Bishop Isango wished him to live at least until the centenary. Mgr Mbwol invited to pray to thank the Lord and to... departure. « Not for 100 years », took over Bishop Isango.
