A magnificent feast was celebrated in Kinshasa as throughout the Oblate world to mark the 198th anniversary of Pope Leo XII's approval of the Constitutions and Rules and therefore of the Congregation founded by Saint Eugene de Mazenod.

The feast was introduced by a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the provincial vicar of the Oblate missionaries of the Province of Congo, Father Guillaume Mutunda at the scholasticate Saint Eugene de Mazenod in Kintambo-Kinshasa. They took part in this celebration: all Oblates working in Kinshasa, the lay associates of the Oblates and the Oblate youth of Mary Immaculate.

At the homily, Father Muthunda recalled the peripeties of the foundation of the Congregation and the steps of Eugene de Mazenod in Rome to have his young congregation approved. Father Muthunda urged the Oblates in the sense of belonging to the Congregation, which asks to meet the challenges of a commitment to the world today. He reminded the Oblate communities of their determination to make a continuous reading of the Constitutions and Rules in preparation for the 200th anniversary to be celebrated in 2026.

At the end of the Mass, Father Adolphe Vunga, coordinator of the sector of the Oblate communities of Kinshasa, read out the Message of the Superior General, Father Luis Ignacio Rois Alonso. The Message underlines the place of the lay associates in the charism of Saint Eugene de Mazenod and the need for effective coordination in the Congregation in accordance with the last General Chapter held in 2022.
