5 years of priesthood of Father Joseph Mukongo

Oblate Father Joseph Mukongo celebrated today July 26, 2026, his 5 years of priesthood. At 1500 hours he presided over a Eucharistic concelebration in the parish church of Saint Eloi in Kinshasa-Ndolo.

The parish has been entrusted to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate since its foundation in 1964. Father Joseph Mukongo renders punctual services there in a great availability appreciated by the faithful, according to the parish priest, Oblate Father Adolphe Vunga, who thanked Father Mukongo, whose main task was that of secretary of the Oblate Province of Congo, residing in the Provincial House, next to the church and the presbytery of Saint Eloi.

The Mass for his 5 years of priesthood, Father Mukongo wanted it as the most joyful since his ordination in 2021 in Ifwanzondo (Kwilu province) by Bishop Joseph Moko, Bishop of Idiofa. Joseph Mukongo said that he was praying in communion with two confreres ordained with him: Father Constantin Mahana and Father John Mwalenia.

In five years, he explained, he understood that the priesthood is indeed a gift from God. It is God alone who gives the grace to be able to carry the joys and sorrows of the priestly ministry. The priesthood is an office, but the faithful Lord gives the strength manifested, especially with joy, in the service of brothers and sisters to teach, exhort and sanctify. In five years, Joseph Mukongo has blessed six marriages. 3 couples were present in the church.

For the visible support, closeness and generosity and prayer of the brothers and sisters in Christ, Joseph Mukongo said thanks from the bottom of his heart, with the blessing of the Eucharistic God.

The priest also asked for forgiveness for imperfections and shortcomings. Above all, he asked for prayer for him and his late father.

After five years, Father Joseph Mukongo still has the taste of being a priest, he reassured. « Pray for me, my only wealth. May God make me a holy and joyful priest. »

And, with his hands raised, the young Oblate priest of Mary Immaculate invoked the divine blessing on the assembly for: health, work, family love, etc.

At the altar, about twenty priests, especially Oblates, concelebrated. They also shared the festive meal offered after Mass in the parish hall « Immense hope ».
