16 young African Oblates made their perpetual vows in Kinshasa

Their spokesman, Congolese scholastic Hugues Ngomboyo, promised that his group would bring a new breath to the congregation of Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate. The 16 young Oblates of French-speaking Africa are from Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On Saturday, 07 September 2024, they made their perpetual vows in the parish church of Saint Eloi in Kinshasa-Barumbu.

They spent a whole month of retreat preparatory to the scholasticate Saint Eugene de Mazenod of Kinshasa-Kintambo. Their hosts were Fathers Lin Kiekie (Cameroon), Abel Nsolo (RDC), Razoky Hissen (Madagascar) and Paul-Marie Mandika (Senegal). Congo's provincial superior, Father Constant Kienge-Kienge, accompanied them the very last week.

The provincial superior of the Congo, the delegate of the Superior General, Fr. Luis Ignacio Rois Alonso, received the final vows of his young colleagues. He gave them the book of the Constitutions and Rules, the scapular of the Virgin Mary and especially the Oblate cross, chosen by the founder, Saint Eugene de Mazenod, as the only distinctive sign of his congregation.

In the homily, Father Mandika invited the new perpetual teachers to attend school and under the protection of the Immaculate Virgin.
